Our Funding Criteria

We’re in the process of updating our funding criteria to reflect our newly broadened strategic direction. Details on our updated funding criteria will be shared here as soon as they’re available.

Labeling Guidance

The Foundation provided funding to Tufts University School of Medicine to develop Global Alcohol Guidance Labels that can be used by brewers. The guidance labels serve to promote alcohol health literacy by making product information more transparent. The label messages include information on alcohol-related harms, such as disease and injury, as well as actionable advice about how to avoid harmful consumption. Alcohol labeling is a rapidly evolving area of research, and the Tufts Global Alcohol Guidance Labeling Project has incorporated the newest research into their developmental process. As labels are developed, they will be made available to brewers and the public health community. We fully expect the labels to contribute to the scientific dialog about how to best inform consumers and decrease alcohol-related harms.

Global Smart Drinking Goals Data Library

The GSDG Data Library is an independent, external warehouse designed to help advance knowledge, science, and the field of public health by making all data sourced in the pursuit of the Global Smart Drinking Goals initiative available for scientific use. HBSA, the external evaluator of the GSDG Initiative, oversees the collection, coordination, measurement, and evaluation of all data collected as well as its analysis and assessment.

Scientific researchers can apply to access GSDG Data Library data to replicate evaluation results, conduct their own research, and plan programs to reduce harmful alcohol consumption

Safe Rides Convening Memo

The Columbus, Ohio City Pilot implemented a Safe Rides program in 2017 to address alcohol-impaired driving by offering free round-trip transportation to high-risk areas when consuming alcohol. When the external evaluation of the program showed unexpected results, a cross-sectoral convening was held in Columbus, Ohio to discuss whether and how safe rides programs could be redesigned to play a role in advancing public health goals. The outcome of that event is the Safe Rides Convening Memo, funded by the AB InBev Foundation (ABIF) and developed in partnership with FSG.

RESPONSIBLE BEVERAGE SERVICE

An intervention program to support alcohol service staff, Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) programs are designed to help prevent sales to minors and reduce underage drinking, binge drinking, and drunk driving. We developed this Responsible Beverage Service Toolkit to help businesses, communities, and regions develop and implement effective RBS programs by providing best practices and practical guidance from successful RBS programs.

SCREENING AND BRIEF INTERVENTION

Screening and Brief Intervention (SBI) is a preventive program that measures an individual’s drinking patterns during regular outpatient or wellness visits and provides interventions to those at risk of harmful consumptions of alcohol. We created this Screening and Brief Intervention Toolkit, developed through best practices and guidance from successful SBI programs, to help businesses, communities, and regions create effective SBI programs in their locations.

ROAD SAFETY

Road Safety is the public health pursuit of safe and secure transport. Management Practices for Safer Roads is a toolkit available in five languages co-developed with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR). This interactive e-learning toolkit offers management methodology that can help improve road safety around the world. Content is delivered through four modules that cover collecting data on road deaths, identifying hazardous road locations, outlining corrective measures, implementing interventions, and monitoring results.

ABIF Accomplishments and Lessons Learned

In 2017, the AB InBev Foundation was created with the mission to reduce the harmful consumption of alcohol globally and bring scientific rigor to the pursuit of AB InBev’s Global Smart Drinking Goals. Bringing together a distinguished board comprised of leading global experts, backed by dedicated staff and partners, the Foundation has achieved notable progress over the past three years.
